We opened the doors to Noon Lodge one year ago on the first weekend of November, 2015. We never got around to throwing a launch party so as the one year anniversary approached we thought why not throw a party now? And throw a party we did. We invited as many people as our cabins could hold and packed as much as we could into the 19 hours we had before our weekend guests started arriving.

New and old friends joined us and by the end of the night it was like we had all known each other for years. It all went by far too quickly but only solidified the fact that this will likely become a yearly tradition. Maybe even a biannual one, who doesn't love a good 1/2 year anniversary.

Highlights include cabin tours led by Tyler Lain. Camp fire lullabies sung by Phoebe Bridgers as we ate all the street tacos we could handle under the meadow lights. And some of the best tunes spun by Ian of Dart Collective, we went from sing alongs around the fire pits to a dance party under the stars. The special "NoonShine" Mule helped keep the party going as well. ;)

HUGE thanks to everyone who came and especially to those who contributed to making the party so memorable. Sid the Cat for booking us Phoebe Bridgers. Ian from Dart Collective for spinning the tunes.  And Civil Coffee for serving up the best coffee that Big Bear has ever seen and helping us all to function a little bit better the next morning.

Visit from a Foodie Blogger

"Living in Los Angeles I experience an endless summer, it’s only an issue during fall, my favorite season. This year I wanted to get out of the city and experience a little fall weather with my babe. I decided on big bear and started browsing for places to stay. I stumbled upon The Noon lodge on idyllic Mallard Bay, walking distance to Big Bear Village. The Noon lodge consists of multiple rustic cabins, communial outdoor fire places, a bocce court, and views of big bear lake. We selected a perfectly decorated two bedroom A frame cabin for our fall getaway. Our cabin was so cozy, romantic, and definitely Pinterest worthy. We promptly sparked the fireplace, heated up some cider in the convenient kitchen, and crafted some hot toddy’s. We spent our perfect weekend relaxing by the fire, drinking cocktails, and enjoying the chill in the air. We will definitely be back to The Noon Lodge, I’d love to see it with snow on the ground." - Celeste

Bachelorette visits Noon Lodge

Earlier this summer we got to host a sister weekend for Becca Tilley & her sister Caroline. You may recognize the name from the hit TV show the Bachelor. Becca had a go on two different seasons and she quickly became a fan favorite. It was so much fun having her at Noon Lodge, you can read more about her stay on her new blog that just launched.

Big Bear

Ringed by the San Bernardino National Forest, about 100 miles northeast of LA, Big Bear is a perfect getaway year-round with more than 300 days of sunshine, two great ski resorts for winter and a freshwater lake with 22 miles of shoreline for summer. You’ll want to bed down at the newly renovated Noon Lodge, a 1950s mountain retreat turned into a rustic boho resort. If it’s summer, take to the lake and swim around the beautiful boulders of Garstin Island, which still has the huts used to house the Chinese workers that built the nearby dam 140 years ago. In the winter, go sledding, snowshoeing and, of course, skiing at Bear Mountain or Snow Summit. Big Bear isn’t a big culinary destination, but few can resist the more than 30 flavors of pancakes/waffles and the all-you-can-eat deal at Madlon’s. At night, crowds gather at Big Bear Lake Brewing Company before hitting up late night karaoke (and craft beer!) at the divey Murray’s Saloon.

And bonus for us the video starred our good friends Lolo and Xavier Burt.

Writer & Traveler Jedidiah Jenkins

Last week we got to host writer and traveler Jedidiah Jenkins. He was looking for an escape to the peace and quiet of the mountains to spend a few days working on his first book. If you follow along on his instagram you will see that he is nothing short of poetic, painting pictures with his words. 

"Writing retreat in Big Bear. Boulders and pine trees and dive bars and cold nights by the fire. Hammering out essays on family, nature, belonging, travel." -Jedidiah Jenkins

"I want a cottage on a boulder mountain. A bed and a quilt and an old stove with a tea kettle on it. A telescope and a chart of constellations. Books everywhere. The smell of books. Having kind and measured opinions about all that the world is up to. Removed from the world but also in it, caring about it and for it. Being old and thoughtful with a pipe and a few squirrels that trust me. A raven would be even better. And friends stopping in. Nieces and nephews making the trek to the mountain for a night of stories and some whiskey in their Dr. Pepper. I'll pour it and say 'this never happened.'" - Jedidiah Jenkins

We can't wait til we can get our hands on his book, sometime in 2016-2017 according to him. 

Oleander + Palm's Big Bear Travel Guide

We recently had the pleasure of hosting Jeran, the talent behind the blog Oleander + Palm, and her darling family. They put together this great little travel guide to Big Bear that we just had to share!

Big Bear Top Ten (according to Oleander + Palm)

1.Definitely stay at the Noon Lodge at Mallard Bay. The detail and thought that has been put into the design and decor of these adorable cabins is absolute perfection. Our cabin was cute and comfy and the kids spent hours in the gorgeous pool. In the evenings we sat by the fire and played corn hole and bocci ball.  (well thanks Jeran!) 

2. Eat any meal at the Teddy Bear Restaurant in the village. We might have eaten pie there more than once. And their chicken pot pie was amazing!!! 

3. Ride a bike! The town has great bike lanes. The Noon Lodge had bikes to borrow, but the ski hills also have rentals and there is some great mountain biking when you take the lifts up.

4. Swim at the China Island Cabins on the lake.  There’s some great granite rocks to jump off of.

5. Hike Castle Rock. It’s a great hike for families. It’s about a one mile hike to the top, but the views are great and there is lots of fun bouldering at the top on the huge granite rocks.

6. Have coffee at the Copper Q. They have an amazing assortment of pastries and more pie. We enjoyed everything we ordered.

7. Visit the North Pole Fudge and Ice Cream Co. in the village for a sweet treat. They have loaded gourmet candy apples, ice cream and lots of candy.

8. One of our favorite activities was the Alpine Sled at Magic Mountain. You ride down the mountain on  a 1/4 mile cement track on sleds. It’s really so much fun. You control your own speed. It’s a really unique experience and so much fun for all of us. We also spent the afternoon on their waterslides as well.  Olivia must have run up those stairs and down those slides 50 times.

9. Take out from Maggio's Pizza is a must. We brought home pizza and salad and enjoyed it on a picnic table outside our cabin.

10. Rent a couple stand up paddle boards. We rented two and took turns for a couple hours paddling around the lake. Even though there are a lot of boats, the water is pretty calm and the kids had a blast.

A Mountain Elopement

We've been getting quite a few inquiries about hosting weddings here at Noon Lodge and after this gorgeous elopement photoshoot we can really see what the allure and draw to the rustic mountain backdrop is all about.

Just look at how stunning this bride and groom look. Big Bear is looking pretty darn good too.  Big thanks to Kendal Riley Photograpy for shooting these and making Noon Lodge look so good. You can also find our little Lodge featured in the May issue of Desert Magazine.

Wallace & James + crew.

A few weeks ago we had the absolute pleasure of hosting Wallace & James, the mother son duo behind the aptly named blog, Wallace & James. James documents her life as a  wife, mother and photographer living in Los Angeles. In addition to being a kick ass mom she's also an amazing photographer, to get more details on that check out this page. 
But before you do that read below to see what she had to say about their stay at Noon Lodge...

" Noon Lodge was booked pretty far in advance but we were able to get a room the week of my husband's birthday so we packed up the family, invited a few friends and headed up the hill.

Reminiscent of The Ojai Rancho Inn with the kilim pillows and bright exterior, the Noon Lodge does not disappoint.  Our hosts were super welcoming and even joined us for a beer at the fire.  There was no pretense and everyone we met was authentic and loving.  We felt right at home which can be rare when you are one of the first visitors to a newly popular place.  The design inside the cabin was a nice balance of trendy textiles and nostalgic camping photos.  It was minimal but not basic.  We stayed in Cabin 10 which housed six adults and a baby nicely.  We also loved being near the campfire and the closest cabin to the frozen lake.  There was a nice little hill that we used to go sledding. 

I can imagine how magical this place will be in the summer with the lake access and beautiful pool, my favorite feature on site.  Although frozen for our visit, we are already planning our summer stay so we can swim in the pool with Wallace.  I can see Noon Lodge becoming our bi-annual getaway celebrating both the warm summer nights and the snowy winters."

Big Bear Review by the Millennial Miss

Noon Lodge - obviously the best place to stay in town, you clearly have good taste Chelsea. ;)

Boulder Bay - a fun place where families and friends gather for some exploring and sledding.

And after a fresh snow you definitely need to hit up the slopes at Snow Summit. How cute is Chelsea with her boyfriend?!
